We threw a party on May 1 and had invited a house full of friends over. The May 1 is a big celebration in Finland as it is in many European countries. It is a celebration of the spring and students, and workers of course. We celebrate the spring and most of us have our student caps on.
The menu was a buffet with inspirations from Italy. Some of the cheeses and cold cuts were actually from Italy. I found a lovely and fragrant pecorino alle pere (pecorino with pear) at a food market at Piazza Santa Maria Novella last week. Other goodies on the cheese platter were Parmigiano, pecorino duro, brie and Finnish cream cheese. And the cold cuts were two different types of salami and prosciutto crudo.
In the buffet we had mixed salad (lettuce, spinach, corn salad and crispy lettuce), panzanella with mozzarella di buffala and fennel and orange salad, grilled vegetables (aubergine, carrot, green and yellow peppers), olives, cherry tomatoes, melon, bread and grissini. As desert fruit salad (Macedonia) and macaroni. Everything but the bread and macaroni were home-made. Will try out a macaroni recipe one day.
