Christmas baking is wonderful because is fills the house with familiar smells. Today it was time to bake date loaf. A sweet loaf to be enjoyed as such, with butter or blue cheese.
This will give you two loaves:
1 l sour milk (Finnish piimä), 2 dl brown syrup, 2 dl coarse rye meal, 2 dl sun flower seeds, 2 dl beer malt, 8 dl flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 2 dl chopped dates and 2 tsp salt.
Mix the milk and syrup together. Mix all the dry ingredients and stir into the liquid. Pour the porridge into two loaf tins lined with baking paper. Bake in 175 C for 1,5 hours. Brush with water and syrup once or twice while baking. Place on a rack to cool off and remove from the tins after 5 min.
